After switching from Ring to the Blink Cameras at my SoCal home, I want to share my actual experiences.

INSTALLATION

I installed the Blink camera in place of my old floodlight. The process took about 30 minutes. The included S-hook was a bit helpful in managing the wiring while on the ladder. I mounted it about 9 feet, which covers the side of my house and part of the rear yard pretty well.

DAILY USE

The 1080p camera provides clear footage day and night. I can easily identify people and read package labels from my driveway. Night vision activates automatically and works well with the floodlights.

Lighting

It puts out about 2,600-lumen, and lights up my entire side of the house and part of the rear yard. I adjusted each light head separately to eliminate dark spots. The motion activation is consistent and helps when I'm unloading going around to the sauna at night in the rear yard.

Motion Detection

I've set up custom motion zones to ignore street traffic while catching activity on the property. I receive notifications mostly at night, due to the raccoons running up and the wall next to the house.

SMART HOME FEATURES

I use the Blink with my existing Alexa devices to:

STORAGE OPTIONS

I chose the local storage option with the Sync Module instead of paying monthly fees. It stores about a week of motion events, which meets my needs.

VALUE ASSESSMENT

At under $100, this camera costs less than my previous Ring system. The lack of required subscription fees saves me money monthly. While it may not have every premium feature, it provides reliable security coverage for my home.
